Family Action & the Role’s Impact:
At Family Action we support people through change, challenge or crisis. It’s what we’ve done for over 150 years. We protect children, support young people and adults and offer direct, practical help to families and communities. Most of our services are based in the UK, whilst on the Isle of Man we deliver two services.
Our vision is of a society that understands the importance and power of family as a foundation for individual futures and connected, resilient communities.
We are looking for an experienced, values-driven Service Manager to lead our Family Support and Supervised Contact services. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to combine strong operational leadership with the freedom to think creatively, test new ideas, and shape how services grow and improve. You will oversee two closely connected services, supporting teams to deliver safe, high-quality, child-centred practice, while also creating the conditions for staff to thrive.
We’re looking for a Service Manager who believes great outcomes for families start with healthy teams, trust and creativity. In our service, great ideas don’t need permission! You will be trusted, supported and empowered to lead with innovative approaches.
You’ll lead our Family Support and Supervised Contact services in an organisation known for its positive culture, flexible working and flat structure – where people are encouraged to think differently, test new ideas and speak up.
If you’re an innovative, relational leader who wants the space to shape services and help people thrive, we’d love to hear from you.
Main Responsibilities:
• Leading and developing two services to deliver safe, effective and compassionate support to children and families.
• Creating a team culture where staff feel confident, supported and empowered.
• Supporting innovation and continuous improvement, helping new ideas to flourish into practice.
• Working collaboratively with commissioners, partners and senior colleagues.
• Ensuring strong governance, safeguarding, quality assurance and performance oversight.
• Balancing operational delivery with strategic thinking and service development.
Main Requirements (for details check the job description and person specification):
• Experience of managing services within family support, supervised contact, safeguarding or related fields.
• A leadership style that is relational, inclusive and strengths-based.
• Confidence to work autonomously, while valuing collaboration and shared decision-making.
• Curiosity, creativity and the courage to think beyond ‘how things have always been done’.
• A commitment to reflective practice, learning and continuous improvement.
• We are particularly keen to hear from people who are excited by the idea of shaping services.
Benefits:
- A supportive, flat management structure
- Flexible and hybrid working arrangements
- Space to innovate and influence service direction
- A values-led organisation with strong emphasis on staff wellbeing
- Opportunities for learning, development and progression
- an annual paid leave entitlement of 30 working days plus bank holidays
- up to 6% matched-pension contributions
- enhanced paid sick leave and paid family leave provisions
- eye care and winter flu jabs vouchers
- cycle to work scheme
- investing in your professional development with ongoing quality training and career development opportunities
We are forward looking, ambitious and committed to continuous improvement. We are a people focused, can-do organisation, which strives for excellence in all we do and operates with mutual respect.
